防水不靠“涂层”?这次把保护层“长”在纤维上

户外暴雨、咖啡洒落——衣物一旦被浸湿,总让人头疼。我们常见的防水织物大多依赖表面涂层,但用久了,经过洗涤和摩擦,这层涂层会慢慢脱落,防水效果也随之下降。

From heavy rain to spilled coffee, wet clothes are a common frustration. Most waterproof fabrics rely on surface coatings, which wear off over time due to washing and friction, reducing their effectiveness.

来自中国科学院理化技术研究所的研究团队,开发了分子组装耐久超疏水壳层(MARS)技术,在每一根纤维表面构建一层超薄却坚固的保护层,就像给纤维穿上“分子装甲”,实现持久防水。

A research team from the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, developed the Molecularly Assembled Robust Superhydrophobic Shell (MARS), building an ultra-thin yet durable layer on each fiber—like “molecular armor”—for long-lasting waterproofing.

🐛 灵感来自弹尾虫的“防水盔甲”

Inspired by Nature: The “Armor”of Springtails这种技术的灵感来自弹尾虫——一种在潮湿泥土中生活的微小生物。它们的表皮结构让水难以附着,即使在潮湿环境中也能保持干燥。

The inspiration comes from springtails—tiny organisms living in wet soil. Their skin structure naturally repels water, allowing them to stay dry even in harsh environments.

🌱 不是“涂上去”,而是“长出来”

Not “Coated On”, But “Grown Out”受此启发,研究团队通过分子自组装,在纤维表面原位形成一层由硅氧网络和低表面能分子构成的保护壳,并通过化学键与纤维牢固结合。这层保护不是简单附着在表面,而是与纤维一体化形成,因此更加稳定耐用。

Inspired by this, researchers use molecular self-assembly to form a protective shell directly on the fiber surface, composed of a silica network and low-surface-energy molecules, and firmly bonded through chemical links. Rather than simply sitting on the surface, the layer becomes integrated with the fiber, making it more stable and durable.

🛡️ “骨架 + 皮肤”的巧妙结构

The Clever “Skeleton + Skin” Structure这层“分子装甲”是双层设计:内层连续硅氧网络像骨架,提供强度和耐磨性;外层低表面能分子像防水“皮肤”,让水珠轻轻一碰就滑落。

This “molecular armor” has a two-layer design: an inner silica network acts as a skeleton for strength and wear resistance, while an outer low-surface-energy layer acts as a waterproof “skin”, causing water droplets to slide off easily.

🧵从纤维到织物,防水性能不打折

From Fiber to Fabric, Performance Stays由于保护层存在于单根纤维上,这种防水能力可以“随纤维走”。无论织造、针织,还是刺绣加工后,织物依然防水。

Because the protection exists at the fiber level, it stays effective after weaving, knitting, or embroidery. Water droplets slide off easily instead of soaking in.

💧耐用性能,经得起考验

Durable Performance for Real-World Use测试表明,这种织物在多种条件下依然稳定:连续强降雨(单点约8万次冲击)、高速水滴、上万次摩擦、多次机洗,以及极端温度(-196°C 到 160°C),防水性能都能保持。

Tests show strong durability: under heavy rain (about 80,000 impacts at one point), high-speed droplets, repeated friction, multiple washes, and extreme temperatures (-196°C to 160°C), the fabric remains waterproof.

相比传统涂层,这种“生长”在纤维上的设计不仅让防水更持久,还避免使用含氟化学品,在性能与环保之间取得平衡,为下一代高性能织物提供了更可持续的新方向。

Compared with traditional coatings, this fiber-grown design offers longer-lasting waterproofing without fluorinated chemicals, balancing performance and sustainability, and pointing toward the next generation of functional textiles.
